The Brainstorming Session
What to do when you don't know what to do?
Try a brainstorming session.
I talked to you in my last blog about Parent Burnout (see that blog HERE). Well, that's what my husband and I both admitted to the other day. We recognized it and I immediately went into "solution" mode. If this is really how bad some of the things with the kids are making us feeling, it's time for change! No time to wait, let's start now.
I didn't want to feel like this. I don't want to be like this, but acknowledging there's a problem is the first step. Step 2 is finding a solution.
That's where BRAINSTORMING comes in. Now, this is something my husband and I were taught during Marriage Team Coaching that we went through in our first year of marriage (because we needed it!) and it's served as a great tool when we're looking for a solution to a problem.
We sat down on the couch, kicked the kids outside, and got out a notepad and pen and went to work.
Step 1 to Brainstorming is writing down any and every idea WITHOUT evaluating or shooting any of them down. Just put them down, no matter how ridiculous they are. This can also be a lot of fun and get some of your feelings out at the same time.
Step 2 Once you have as many idea as you can think of that would help solve the current problem, pick the ones you think that would be most effective.
Step 3 Implement them!
Now, out of respect for my daughters, for who this meeting was mainly about, I won't be sharing all the things we were struggling with, however we did find some good solution that should help start to improve the situation.
When your up against a wall, find a new way to climb.
Much love,
-Joy
On Monday, we will talk about how a Family Meeting can help implement new solutions and ideas.
